Antiseptic and antifungal shampoo
Composition:
Each ml contains: Chlorhexidine digluconate 20 mg, Miconazole nitrate 20 mg, Excipient q.s.f 1 ml.
Indications:
Mico CX contains special active ingredients and a mild scent that helps clean hair, control shedding, promote healthy skin, deodorize
nourish hair, and make hair super smooth.
Prevention and treatment of common skin and fur diseases in pets such as: Skin fungus, folliculitis, dermatitis that can cause itching,
shedding, rough skin, peeling, red, coin-shaped or ring-shaped fungal spots (ringworm).
Pharmacodynamics:
Chlorhexidine digluconate is a bis-biguanide anti-microbial, effective against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria via both
bacteriostatic (concentrations greater than 100 μg/ml) and bactericidal (1 - 100 μg/ml) action. The active substance is widely used
in human and veterinary products as a cleansing agent for wounds and clinical equipment. The mechanisms of action are achieved
via the over-riding of cell wall exclusion mechanisms and the formation of phosphate complexes.
Miconazole nitrate is widely used in human and veterinary medicine for the treatment of fungal infections. It is an imidazole agent with
action against a variety of micro-organisms, but with no efficacious activity against Gram- negative rods. In the proposed product, this
active substance was selected for activity against Malassezia pachydermatis.
Pharmacokinetics:
Chlorhexidine binds strongly to mucosa and skin, and is therefore poorly absorbed by this means. Excretion is mainly via the faeces, and
minimally via the urine. The active substance is not detectable in the blood plasma following treatment.
For miconazole, there is again little absorption through the skin or mucous membrane. Peak plasma concentrations may be found 4 hours
after a 1 g oral dose. Above 9 mg/kg, intravenous doses generate plasma concentrations of approximately 1 μg/ml. The majority of the
active substance is bound to plasma protein, with poor absorption into cerebrospinal fluid. There is a large amount of diffusion to
mammalian joints, liver gastrointestinal system, adrenals and kidney. Studies in rats and mice have found that miconazole crosses the
placental barrier, but does not accumulate in the foetus. The active substance is detectable in mammalian milk. The half-life of miconazole
is approximately 24 hours, and it is excreted mainly unchanged in the faeces. A smaller proportion is excreted via the kidneys, in general,
as metabolites of the active substance. Plasma concentrations can remain higher in subjects with impaired renal function.
Target Animals: Dogs and cats.
Dosage and administration:
Wet the entire coat of the pet, apply a sufficient amount of the shampoo to the fur, rub from head to toes to create foam, leave for 2-5
minutes, the rinse thoroughly with plain water. Bathe 1-2 times a week.
Overdose: N/A.
Contra-indication:
Do not use in case of hypersensitivity to the active substances or to any of the excipients.
Special warnings:
• Apply shampoo thoroughly to the hairy skin around the mouth, under the ears, and between pads to prevent and treat skin diseases.
• Avoid getting shampoo in eyes, ears or letting dogs or cats lick it when using.
Special precautions for use
Special precautions for use in animals
For external use only.
In case of accidental contact with eyes, rinse with plenty of water.
Do not allow the animal to lick itself during shampooing and rinsing, or before it is dried. Take care to avoid the animal inhaling the product
or getting it into the nose or mouth during shampooing.
Puppies and kittens should not come into contact with nursing females after treatment until the coat has dried.
Special precautions to be taken by the person administering the veterinary medicinal product to animals
• People with known hypersensitivity to chlorhexidine, miconazole or any of the excipients should avoid contact with the veterinary
medicinal product.
• This product can cause eye irritation. Avoid contact with the eyes. In case of accidental contact with eyes, rinse with plenty of water. If
irritation persists consult your doctor.
• Avoid excessive handling and stroking of treated animals immediately following treatment.
• Ringworm in the cat is infectious to humans and so it is advisable to wear gloves and have arms covered during clipping and shampooing
of infected cats.
• When shampooing a cat, in order to avoid prolonged contact with the shampoo, wash and dry hands gently. Do not scrub.
Adverse reactions (frequency and seriousness):
• Exceptionally a dog with atopy or a cat with allergic skin disease may develop a pruritic and/or erythematous reaction after treatment.
• In very rare circumstances, dogs and cats may develop a skin reaction (itching, redness) after treatment.
Use during pregnancy, lactation or lay
Pregnancy: Should not be used in pregnant cats as miconazole is contra-indicated in pregnancy.
